'Mardi Gras' exposure - not the real thing - but hot, anyway.

This is not to 'rain on anybody's parade'. But if you head off looking for these sights at the real Mardi Gras, you might be disappointed - although you could probably head to the Latin Quarter and see scenes like these during that time (and also at other times of year).

The scenes in the 'mardi gras exposure' were not likely taken during Mardi Gras - at least, they are not really part of the Mardi Gras festivities. Although it's all in good fun, the drunken antics are not part of the annual Mardi Gras festivities (in New Orleans), which are based on a religious observance, of course. In reality, the real Mardi Gras does not take place on Bourbon Street. So it is rather a widespread myth. However, despite the 'myth', it can certainly be fun to be a part of the after-parade events that happen on Bourbon Street. Fortunately for those of us who enjoy seeing them, the cock flashing and drunken antics can occur at many other times of year.

Formerly, Southern Decadence, billed as the Gay 'Mardi Gras', and held at Labor Day (first weekend in Sept) was truly an unbelievably wild street event. To many outside the New Orleans area, the term 'Mardi Gras' has become synonymous with the flagrant street flashing breast by women and cock & balls (or butts) by men who are drunk and roaming Bourbon Street in the French Quarter after the Mardi Gras parades have finished elsewhere across the city, seeking to be rewarded with a string of shiny beads for exposing their privates or genitals.

Although fun and wild, and as such, it allows both the bead-giver and all of the casual bystanders too, a glimpse (or even more) of cute guys' dicks or their half-naked bodies (lower half - as they let their jeans and boxers drop), it is not really what Mardi Gras is. However, the myth persists. It's more likely to be an impromptu street party that spontaneously occurs during Spring Break or other holiday weekends in the old Quartier in downtown New Orleans. Tens of thousands of party-seeking college-age young people descend on the French Quarter on New Orleans during Spring Break, and "boys gone wild' is the name of the game.

"In part due to the way the news media has focused on the activities of those who "visit" and go the French Quarter "after" the parades, it now appears that all many think about when they hear the words "Mardi Gras"are activities occurring in the French Quarter; i.e., flashing women (tourists who are drunk or need attention) and crowd surges (a spring break crowd trying to catch a glimpse)! This is not Mardi Gras. It has absolutely nothing to do with the "real" Mardi Gras celebration. Unfortunately, sex makes more news .. so every news camera visiting our beautiful city for Mardi Gras heads for the spring break crowd on Bourbon Street ... and does not give adequate coverage to those who spend thousands of dollars and months of time planning "The Greatest Free Show on Earth!" It is our hope that visitors who have seen Internet sites by tourists to New Orleans showcasing these tourists realize that they are only seeing 1/10 of 1% of what happens during the entire Mardi Gras season ... and hopefully, will soon realize Mardi Gras is not one big spring break for dirty old men, but an enjoyable celebration for families and friends. World Naked Bike Ride: Power, Purpose, or just getting nude in public?

Getting naked for the sake of some higher or noble purpose seems to be modern society's rather quirky response toward liberating today's new sexual mores and to bolster the moral consciousness of our so-called degenerate tribe(s) of humanity. It would be cool to actually participate , fo'sure!. But unfortunately, not many people are ready for prime time nudity where I live.

We've been trying to get a World Naked Bike Ride started here (Tokyo) and elsewhere in

Asia, but it really doesn't seem to go over that well for a variety of reason. I notice too that even some major urban areas has some trouble this year. In some case, the authorities refused to allow 'full monty' nudity - although I didn't seem to stop the true nudist enthusiasts or believers in the cause of 'No more exposure' to automobile exhaust. It's clear that the United States is decidedly more 'conservative' that other areas of the world - Chicago, the 3rd largest city, held its WNBR at night. For one thing, there seems to be a deluge of political apathy.

People don't seem to care about making a strong political statement by public protest. Perhaps they have seen the futility of such protests (esp. public ones) over the generations. Secondly, people do not like to take personal responsibility for their actions and decisions.

Getting naked (partly or fully) is certainly a personal decision -- although it might seem to suit the 'group' mentality that seems apparent in many Asian countries. The fact is getting naked is very individual and very personal act. Finally, the sense of indignant indecency or an attitude of righteous morality that comes

from doing something so brazen just does not have the same meaning in Asian countries. Nudity is just a fact of life. It does not make the same huge societal statement because nudity itself is not regarded as morally corrupt or wrong as it is in Christianity and otehr monotheistic religion-dominated cultures. The main reason I wanted to write about this was the thousands of great CMNM photos that appear during this season of the WNBR. Particularly appealing are the photos of naked men in the midst of clothed ones.

Searching for a Deeper, More Intellectual Approach to CMNM Sensuality

I read with great interest and enthusiasm your latest entry on the CMNM blog. I have to agree with you that craving a 'skinship' relationship with other men is oftentimes more a CMNM experience rather than a sexual one. I am speaking from personal experience, now that I am able to put a name (CMNM) to it. Before realizing the existence of this phenomenon, I too thought it was my libido talking. But, now, at this (slightly) later point in my life, I am searching for a deeper, more intellectual approach to sensuality. Don't get me wrong, I have enjoyed some good sex over the years.

If I may be more blunt, as I feel I can due to the honest tone of our communications, I have fucked countless guys (and have been fucked by them as well), sucked my share of some great cocks (and received blow-jobs as well), and live to tell the story!!! Clothed males who revel in the self-acclaiming, social-norm-defying nudity of one of their members may not be, necessarily, a universal male-oriented

behavior among all cultures. However, it is a fairly common phenomenon. The photo above highlights the apparent delight that this group of Japanese men are experiencing by seeing one of their guys - get up and show his genitals.

They are probably either regular businessmen or factory workers on a retreat or a set of club members or teammates who are relaxing after the day's events (moto-cross races, mountain biking or birdwatching.. whatever).

This is NOT sexually explicit behavior by any stretch of the imagination. But why do they have such glee in the eyes? It is my theory that the act of nudity itself is a self-affirming (virtually symbolic) act that all the men are enjoying vicariously.

True, it may cause a few of the men to long for some deeper or intimate affection with this naked guy who is 'on display' or for other members of the gang, but it is not sexual in the raw and basic sense of the word. Therefore, the spector of homoerotic stimulation always lies at the edges of the barrier between acceptable and unacceptable behavior (or thoughts) when a group of men who relate well gets together -- without the social pressures that tend to suppress freedom of individual expression - especially of behaviors or thoughts that are sexually motivated or erotically appealing.

Summer's dwindling away slowly here. But the sunny days are no longer so humid; school's getting started so that brings out teams and athletic groups. Fortunately, we've had few typhoons (Pacific hurricanes) so far this season). Instead of spending all summer abroad (US/Europe), I returned to JP and have had a few weeks off. Lucky for me, it means trips locally (by bike), into the big city (for the gay baths) or further away. Just minutes by bicycle from my house is a (usually) shallow river that has large flat flood-zone embankments which are used for recreation areas. I've been spending lots of time there - sunny myself (almost naked or sometimes completely - SEE NEXT article). I was pleasantly surprised recently to be flashed (accidental exposure - really) by some college age frisbee soccer dudes. (see pics below) The best 'exposing' was done on a Sunday afternoon. But unfortunately, I didn't have my camera. I went back two days later and the same group was practicing. This time I got some photos; however, the two hottest guys who naked 'incidents' I wrote about in the blog entry (below) weren't as exhibitionistic as before. Paradoxically, people in groups can get away with almost anything if the 'group's' mores/norms allow it. It was both intriguing and downright sexy to watch. As I said, I was inspired to try out some innocent naked exposure on my own -- hardly innocent - but not malicious either. Who knows maybe there was someone with a camera, taking photos of my naked body - just as I had done with the frisbee team above. About 4:30pm when the fisherman leave the river (most have on waders and are out flying fishing), I move from near the side of the frisbee soccer field on down to the river's edge. There is a grassy / bushy area between the field area and the river banks, which is lower, flat but wdie, and partially hidden - except from people who are either on the river's edge or who are standing on the other side of the river. It's covered in smooth rounded rocks and pebbles. I strip and wear my wrap-around (pareo) to get into the water. Then remove it and swim in the very shallow cool and clean (mostly clean) water. It's not the muddy crap you see in China or some other Asian nations. The water in Japan is mostly clean so much so that you're tempted to drink it - and probably could without risk. The people in Japan are proud of their water and a lot of public works money is spent to ensure its quality and efficiency.
